MacTheRipper has released the 3.0 version and it is no longer a freeware. You need to donate to get this version, sending a gift. The last free version is 2.6.6 and you can easily get it from software downloading websites like Mac update.

The main changes of current version 3.014M include:

1. MacTheRipper 3.0 is the commercial software and no longer free.
2. Able to handle the "structural copy protections" that are added to the new releases and re-releases over the past years.

How to get MacTheRipper 3.0

To get MacTheRipper 3.0, first you need to make a gift by sending email to Geezerbuttz to request Gift details.

When you finish send the gift, you'll receive an email with MacTheRipper packaged in "Double Click Me.app". Then save the attachment anywhere you want. Just don't open it while it is still attached to your email. There will be three folders inside and select one according to your Mac OS and save the right one to your application folder.

The next thing to do is to request license. Double clicking MTR for the first time will give you the following window:

Enter a PayPal or Western Union transaction number associated with your gift to activate the "Request A license" button. Wait for the MTP to send you the license and it generally takes about 3 hours. Note: You must have an email address set up in your Mac, such as Mail, Entourage, etc;
