How to Use MacTheRipper 3.0

MacTheRipper is ideal for saving your favorite DVD movies to your hard drive considering the intact output quality. If you are new to MacTheRipper, you might find it a little bit head-scratching to figure out the settings or even where the output file is saved to. This introduces basic steps for DVD Ripping with MacTheRipper 3.0 and some of its features to help you take full advantage of it.

Part 1. How to rip DVDs with MacTheRipper 3.0

  1. Install the MacTheRipper by double-clicking the MacTheRipper.dmg. When the installation is finished, launch it.
  2. Inset the DVD disc you want to rip, if the DVD Player automatically launches, just quit it. MacTheRipper will start scanning when it detects the DVD. If the region of your DVD does not match with the DVD player, MacTheRipper won't be able to rip it.

    Note: Leave 'RCE Region' set to "OFF" when it says that RCE is '-CLEAR-'; If RCE is '-DETECTED-', always set the 'RCE Region' to the region the DVD comes from, regardless of the numbers that show up in the 'Region' field.

  3. If you want the exact copy of your DVD, you are now ready to rip your DVD, just hit "go".

Part 2: Some tips and features

Tips

  1. You can set the default save location for MacTheRipper's output by selecting "Save To…" in the File menu
  2. If you need to rip DVDs from around the world, you can consider using Pioneer DVD drives. These drives have region-free unlocked firmware available that will let you rip and play DVDs from anywhere in the World.

Features-Extraction mode settings

  1. Full Disc Extraction: Full copy of DVD movie, which is ready to be played from the hard drive with DVD Player, converted to other formats with other applications or burned to DVD-R to use on DVD players.
  2. Main Feature Extraction: A copy of just the main feature which is ready to be played from the hard drive with DVD Player, converted to other formats or burned to DVD-R to use on DVD players.
  3. Title Set Extraction: A copy of a selected Title Set, which might cause playback issues depending on the disc.
  4. Title Only Extraction: Extracts the selected title (typically the individual features on DVDs) to a single file, either as a muxed (multiplexed) VOB file, where all the different streams (.m2v video, .ac3, .dts and .pcm audio, and .srt subtitles) are combined, or as the desired demuxed streams. You can use VLC player to play the VOB file.
  5. Title – Chapter Extraction: Extracts the selected chapter(s) to a single file (or optionally one file for each chapter), either as a muxed (multiplexed) VOB file, where all the different streams (video, audio, subtitles) are combined, or as the desired demuxed streams. Title – Cell Extraction: Extracts the selected cell(s) to a single file (or optionally one file for each cell), either as a muxed (multiplexed) VOB file, where all the different streams (video, audio, subtitles) are combined, or as the desired demuxed streams.
