How to convert DVD to DivX on Mac OS X for free

This article introduces two methods to how to convert DVD movies to DivX on Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Lion etc. Both are workable and you can choose one according to your needs. Method one is for Mac users who want to rip DVD movies for playback on portable devices like Xbox, PSP, PS3, and more. There's no need to use DivX encoding and you can achieve the task easily with iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac using presets like PSP. However, if you just want to take a DVD and transcode it to DivX format for DivX players. Method two, which is kind of complicated, is your choice.

Method one: Rip and transcode DVDs in one go on Mac OS X

Tips: Play DivX files on Mac
1. Install QuickTime component Perian, and then QuickTime will play DivX files smoothly.
2. Get the free DivX codec for QuickTime from DivX.com, and then QuickTime will be able to play movie AVI.
3. Get MPlayer OS X. MPlayer OS X is better than QuickTime/DivX, because sometimes QuickTime with DivX is not as smooth.
