Auto Color
It is suitable for quick enahancements of colours in a video since it does automatic colour change.
- Threshold: It defines the limit in which the impact of auto colour will affect a video.
- Blend with Original: This effect desaturates the colour effect made on a video. The higher it is set the more the originalty of the video is mainatained.
- Select Frame: It allows users to choose a frame that will act as a source for automatic enhancements. All the automatic grading effects applied affect each frame of the footage being edited.
Auto Contrast
This effect will automatically affect the video clip contrast values in the highlighted layer.
- Threshold: Allows you to define a threshold that colours in the footage will not be impacted this effect.
- Blend with Original: By setting high value of this effect will minimize its effect on the video.
- Select Frame: The select frame is built to enable you choose a frame that will act as a source for all your contrast setting adjustments. Any auto grading effects done will be applied to the entire selected video frame. </li >
Auto Levels
It automatically adjusts the tonal range levels of highlighted video clip.
- Threshold: Defines the lowest level in which colours in the video will not be impacted by effects.
- Blend with Original: It lowers the impact of effects on initial video clip. The higher you increase this effect, the softer the vide becomes.
- Select Frame: With the select frame, it allows you to select the video frame that will act as source of the effect adjustments. Any auto grading effects made All auto grading effects impact will apply clip which they are applied to selected area.
Brightness and Contrast
As for Brightness and Contrast effects, it does not affect the layer you apply it until you highlight a preset or set new values of the effects.
- Brightness: To increase brigthness drag the slider to the right and to lower brightness drag the slider to the left.
- Contrast: To lower contrast move the slider to the left and it will show negative figures whereas to increase contrast is to drag slider to display postive figures.
Color Balance
The shadows, midtones and highlights come in a balance of red, green and blue and you can adjust their balance on a video you apply.
This option allows you to maintain layers original brighness value when you are adjusting its colours.
Shadows
- Red Balance: To decrease the red tones in the shadow areas of the image slide it to the left whereas to increase the red tones slide it to the right.
- Green Balance: To decrease the green tones in the shadow areas of the image slide to the left whereas to increase green tones in the image slide to the right
- Blue Balance: To decrease the blue tones in the shadow areas of the image slide to the left whereas to increase the blue tones slide to the right.
Mid-Tones
- Red Balance: To decrease the red tones in the mid-tone areas of the image slide to the left wheareas to increase the red tones in the image slide to the right.
- Green Balance: To decrease the green tones in the mid-tone areas of the image slide to the left whereas to increase the green tones in the image slide to the right.
- Blue Balance: To decrease the blue tones in the mid-tone areas of the image slide to the left while to increase the blue tones in the image slide to the right.
Highlights
- Red Balance: To decrease the red tones in the highlights of the image slide to the left whereas to increase the red tones in the image slide to the right.
- Green Balance: To decrease the green tones in the highlights of the image slide to the left while to increase to the green tones in the image slide to the right.
- Blue Balance: To decrease the blue tones in the highlights of the image slide to left whereas to increase the blue tones in image slide to the right.
Color Temperature
Lighting area of video recording determines the color temperature of the raw footage. If the footage was recorded using street lights only, there will be a lot of yellows and red in the video clip. On the other recording under fluorescent lighting will see a video have excessive blue temperature.
This Color Temperature effect has limited presets like Blue Sky or Candle Light that emulate the different temperatures of different types of light.
Temperature: Dragging the slider to left the will reduce color temperature will decrease and enhance the red and orange colors. On the other hand, dragging the slider to the right increases color temperature and enhance the blue colors.
Crush Blacks & Whites
With this effect you will be able to adjust control the levels of blacks and whites in an image.
- Black: Moving the slider to the right increases the amount of black in the image. The further right you move the darker the images becomes and a little move will see less darkeness in the image.
- White: Moving the slider to the right increases the amount of white in your image. The further right you move the whiter the images becomes and a slight move will see less whiteness in the image.
Curves
The Curve effect is presented in a graph. The horizontal axis of the graph displays the original values of the image, whereas the vertical axis of the graph shows the output values, that you entered while changing the graph.
To enhance the image highlights, adjust the effect from the top right and the shadows can be changed at the lower left corner of the graph. Strong contrasts are evident on the steep sides of the graph whereas slightly steep sides constitutes softer contrast between highlights and shadows.
The curve effect consists of two presets. The fist one resets the graph to a straight line whereas forms the s-curve on the graph.
By choosing the s-curve preset the center of the graph becomes steep. This translates to increase in contrasts in the mid-tones and a decrease in the level of detail in highlights and shadows. This preset is helpful when adding details where the focus frame is human face.
Curves are also used to ehance the RGB channels by combining or individually. Individual adjustment aids in mending white balance or lighting.
Exposure
The Exposure effect allows more light in through the camera lens. By adjusting this properties it manipulates the video clip to be darker or brighter more naturally unlike adjusting the brightness. Also, when you increase the Exposure value you will increase the contrast between the brightest and the darkest areas of an image whereas reducing Exposure decreases contrast.
The shadows, highlights, and mid-tones effects and the controlled individually.
- Exposure: To decrease the brightness of the image drag the slider to the left, while dragging the slider to the right increase the brightness of an image.
- Offset: It fabricates the shadows and mid-tones brighter or darker.
- Gamma: It manipulates the midtones of your image.
Gamma
Gamma effect affects mid-tones of an image and mild effects on a mild effect on highlights and shadows. The gamma values which are red, green, and blue color channels are adjustable.
- Red Gamma: It adds or lowers the red tones in an image. The changes made will mostly affect midtones.
- Green Gamma: It adds or lowers the green tones in an image. What you will change will mostly affect the midtones.
- Blue Gamma: It increases or reduces the blue tones in an image. The changes made mostly affects the midtones.
Hotspots
This effect enables you to choose the brightest areas of your image and adjust them.
- Threshold: It sets the brightness limit brightness depending on the effect. Sections beyond the limit will maintain their detail.
- Threshold Add Color: Sections of the image that are beyond the threshold will be filled with the color that is choosen in this property. The choosen default colour is usually black which can aid to differentiate hotspots in the images inuse for compositing reasons.
- Saturation: It adds or reduces the intensity of colors in the sections of the image that are brighter than the threshold.
- Brightness: It allows you to modify the brightness of all parts of the image that are brighter than the threshold.
- Smooth Source: It blurs the source image before defining the threshold. It makes the transition sections around the threshold finer and decreases coarseness.
Hue, Saturation & Lightness
You can adjust hue, saturation, and lightness of your videos. The Master option adjusts the hue shift, saturation and the lightness, of the whole image. Changing a particular color option enables you to change only certain family color.
- Hue Shift: Allows to adjust colors by moving them around the color wheel. You can define the appropriate number of degrees you want to rotate. The colors are ordered along the wheel according to how the effects are listed that is Red, Yellow and Green. The angle between the any of the color families is 60 degrees. To makes changes on the whole image you need to use Master Control or the modifications will only affect the selected color family.
- Saturation: Define the generall intensity of colors in an image. The changes are made on the whole image when using Master control otherwise, changes will only apply on the chosen image.
- Lightness: Turns the image to be brighter or darker. The entire image will only be affected if you use the Master control or else the adjustments will only be applied on the selected color family. If you want the image to look less saturated then you need to set lightness value higher. Therefore, it is advisable to change both Lightness and Saturation.
Levels Histogram
Levels Histogram displays indepth information about the channel composition of the video clip implemented as well as the tonal range. You can deploy it to control the tonality of a layer manually.
Upon adding Levels Histogram effect to a footage it will show the full-color range on your image. At the furthest right you will see tones of pure white whereas the tones of pure black are visble on the far left of the graph. Also, the height of the graph at any point depicts the frequency of a tone in the image. When you adjust the color channel in the Channels menu you will be able to see the tonal range of the chosen channel.
Read the Introducing Scopes page to learn more.
White Balance
The White Balance effect enables you to rectify the footage recorded with bad white balance. To correct the parts of the image with poor white or grey balance, you will use the color pipette.
- Color: Color enables you to the white color by using a pipette to choose the pure white color from a footage. This option also enables you to shift the white baalance to another color.
YUV Color Correction
This correction wheels makes use of the YUV color space rather than the RGB color space. The YUV color space considers the human color perception.
By using this effect, it will turn your video clip to the YUV color space for modification. Once you make the adjustments you can then turn the video clip back to the RGB color space. This YUV correction tool isolates the brightness of the image from the color data. The Y and V channels houses the color data displayed on the horizontal and vertical axes that cuts through the middle of the wheel while the the U channel stores the brightness data.
Highlights
- Brightness: Adjusts the Y (brightness) value of the highlights without changing the brightness of the channels that keep the chrominance. It is equivalent to the slider situated on the top left side of the color wheel.
- UV Shift Amount: Allows you define the the intensity of the color changes that you are making. It displays the precise distance of the control spot from the top center of the control wheel.
- UV Shift Direction: Shows the hue in which all colors are modified. This radial dial is same as the top color wheel and it shows the degree at which the control point lies within the color wheel.
- Hue Shift: Changes the colors in the highlights of the image by turning them around the color wheel. The link between the outside and the main wheel reflects the extent to which this effect was modified.
- Saturation: It makes it possible for you to select the strength of the choosen hue. It allows you to adjust the equivalent values as the Saturation slider placed at the top right side of the color wheel.
Mid-tones
- Brightness: Modifies the Y (brightness) value of the mid-tones without changing the brightness of the channels that keep the chrominance. This slider is equivalent to the slider placed on the middle left of the color wheel.
- UV Shift Amount: Allows you to define the intensity of the color changes that you are making. This slider displays the precise distance of the control point from the mid center of the control wheel.
- UV Shift Direction: Shows the hue to which all colors are modified. The radial dial is the same as the center color wheel and it constitutes the angle at which the control point lies on the color wheel.
- Hue Shift: Changes the colors in the mid-tones of the image by moving them around the color wheel. The association between the outer and the main wheel depicts the extent to which this option was moved.
- Saturation: Enables you to select the degree of the selected hue. With this slider you will be able to adjust the equivalent values as the Saturation slider which is placed on the mid right of the color wheel.
Shadows
- Brightness: Modifies the Y (brightness) value of the shadows without impacting the lightness of the channels that house the chrominance. It is similar to the slider situated on the leftside of the lowerside of color wheel.
- UV Shift Amount: Allows you define the intensity of the color modification that you are implemeting. The slider displays the distance of the control point from the middle of the loweside of the control wheel.
- UV Shift Direction: Shows the hue to which all colors are changed. This radial dial is the same as color wheel at the bottom and it corresponds to the angle at which the control point lies within the wheel.
- Hue Shift: Changes the colours in the shadows of an image by turning them around the colour wheel. The association between the outer and the main wheel depicts the extends to which this option was modified.
- Saturation: Enables you to select the degree of the choosen hue. With this slider you will manipulate the same values as the Saturation slider situated on the bottom rigt of the color wheel.
