iPad's high definition display makes iPad perfect for watching HD DVD movies, music videos, TV shows, and more. You might want to use handbrakes to put some DVD movies or videos on your iPad but don't know what is the best settings for iPad. Actually, there are some presets for Apple devices: iPhone & iPod touch preset available for all Apple devices, the preset for Apple TV available for iPad or Apple TV.

Note: If you want to use Handbrake to rip DVD or convert video to new iPad, you can only choose the common iPad settings shown below, no 1080p HD output video available. Handbrake Settings for iPad using Apple TV Preset

iPad and Apple TV can handle higher resolution, so preset for Apple TV is recommended if you want to make the most of your iPad's HD feature and watch HD videos on your new iPad.

1. Import DVD or video files to Handbrake

2. Select Apple TV preset

If you want to rip commercial DVDs (Blu-ray DVD movies excluded), the Apple TV preset is fine.
If you need to convert HD videos, you can raise the resolution to 1280 width in picture settings.

If you want to play your video on all Apple devices like iPhone, iPad and iPod, you can use iPod preset which will provide a smaller output file size than Apple TV preset does, but the picture with lower quality than the preset for AppletTV does.To converting DVD movies and videos to iPad with iPhone & iPod touch preset, it's It's similar with using Apple TV preset. Just raise the resolution to 480 height and the output video will work on all Apple.

And I really want to know what the settings should be for the new ipad with retina display. It should be able to handle better settings, no?

Well, now it can be updated again for the New iPad which does have retina display! :)

"iPad's retina display makes iPad perfect for watching HD DVD movies, music video......." It doesn't give you a lot of confidence in an article when the first sentance is wrong. The iPad does not have a retina display! The iPhone4 and 4S are the only Apple devices currently with retina displays.
